Is this a new use for Inhalation Sedation for DCPs?

The end of an excellent day for Chris Charon and yours truly with Michael Cahill and one of their Dental Therapists, Kathryn Carey in Bolton at the Cahill Dental Care Centre. Simultaneously mentoring them both, together with their whole team of RDNs, a trainee DN and practice manager too. This was the second and final day of us mentoring the team and today we confidently signed off the two competency certificates for Michael and Kathryn.

An outstanding team, in our opinion, who we are certain will utilise the technique to further grow their already successful practice and change the lives of some of their patients.

Two of the children that the Therapist treated had "RA" trials with a difference. As part of this competency mentoring process providing a short test run for the sedation technique, allows a child to understand what was involved, how they would feel about it and so on. However in addition, Kathryn took the opportunity to carry out some fissure sealant and found that this made a huge difference to the efficiency and quality of the treatment provided.
No fidgeting, a calm still tongue, less salivation. Each sealant took just a few minutes to complete once the child had been lightly sedated. Now I am not suggesting that every child needs sedation for fissure sealing. However if the equipment is installed anyway and the hygienist, therapist or indeed dentist is competent to use it and a less than cooperative child is booked for fissure sealants, this look like an excellent way to efficiently provide a quality of care that should have a good life-span.

There are many more stories to tell for each of the 10 patients treated today but this one is interesting and different perhaps.
