Inhalation Sedation: What a great service to this patient.

Today's post comes from Dr. Chris Brown BDS A GDP working in London as an Associate.

Chris undertook his inhalation sedation training with me about 3 years ago and has since gone on to undertake additional I.V. Sedation training.

He contacted me early this morning with a question for his "old" mentor about a patient to be seen later in the day and he later proceeded to carry out the planned treatment for his patient.
This evening I received this from him:

Just treated a delightful gent today.

He has gone through a lot lately, with on-going issues related to anxiety and panic attacks for which he is receiving cognitive therapy.

The anxiety extends to dental care, with terrible memories of ineffective and painful injections.

He has had on-going tooth troubles, with irreversible pulpitis relating to a heavily decayed lower second molar tooth.

He was resigned to have an extraction, to avoid lengthy treatment.

We had a good chat, discussing his options. He didn't want the extraction, it was just his fears getting in the way.

I took him through how we might be able to use some Happy Air and also my new acquisition
The Wand and that was that..."let's try the root canal".

I can happily report that it worked perfectly for him. Shaky at first, he quickly relaxed back into the dental chair, his breathing rate slowed, his tension gone. He let me numb the tooth (a simple STA technique used), without flinching and with perfect ease.

After we had finished the appointment, he came to at the end with a smile on his face, grinning ear to ear  .

I asked how it felt, his answer: "I don't know, I didn't feel anything!"

My thanks to Christopher Brown for his permission to share this success.
What a great service to this patient.

Now if this excellent result is something that you or someone you know would like to train  to acheive, and not just for patients with such complex anxiety backgrounds, then there are still places on offer for my IACSD Accredited courses on Sat.16th Sept  and Sat. Dec 2nd 2017 in Newbury Berkshire.
